The State Library Victoria was established in 1854 as the Melbourne Public Library, making it Australia’s oldest public library and one of the first free libraries in the world. The library building is one of Melbourne’s most distinctive landmarks and the Vision 2020 redevelopment project recently transformed the asset to create 40% additional public space to accommodate the ever-growing number of visitors, researchers and students.
The Australian-Danish architectural collaboration with Schmidt Hammer Lassen and Architectus was supported by the Steensen Varming studios in Sydney and Copenhagen. The international, award-winning design team was also supported by Melbourne-based Andronas Conservation Architects and Irwin Consult to deliver a simply amazing outcome for the people of Victoria!
In another Darkon/Lumascape bespoke luminaire joint design, the high-powered 5,300lm Lumascape INCAND-AIR LED engine (also used in the Sydney Opera House) was neatly engineered to sit in a locally manufactured, extruded aluminium housing. The array of highly tuned Red, Green, Blue, White and Amber Luxeon LEDs deliver excellent whites of any CCT with high CRI, and also rich, vivid, coloured light.
MRS T linear profile was utilised in a recessed trimless application, showcasing the mounting versatility of the extrusion range along with the 30mm wide ROD SUSPENDED GRAZER fixtures.
