Darkon Architectural Lighting

ST HUBERT’S WINERY

DARKON’s custom bespoke lighting fabrications for St Hubert’s Winery is a testament to the winery’s commitment to maintaining its pioneering spirit. Established in 1862 as one of the first wineries in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, St Hubert’s has played a crucial role in positioning the region as a premium wine-producing area. Working closely with NDYLIGHT, Wes Thom was appointed to install the main lighting inclusions, suspended feature loop pendants complete with sixteen individual spotlights, as well as oversized Ambient Rings after the site underwent a complete redevelopment awarded to design studio Cera Stribley.

Authenticity is at the heart of the design concept for the cellar. This is expressed through materiality including natural wood formed concrete and copper at the entry, timber panelling, as well as solid smooth natural edged timber wine tasting benches and brown leather seated stools. The clean, minimal and ‘earthy’ architectural intent allows the two main feature lighting elements by DARKON to complement the winery’s unique features, including its iconic barrel hall, its cellar door, and its restaurant.

Andrew Ryan, Director of Ryan Hospitality Group, said, “Winemaking will always be close to our hearts, but with the Estate we’ve broadened our table. Pull up a chair for lunch at Quarters, celebrate special moments with Harriett, or immerse yourself in Indigenous culture at the Hubert Gallery of Art. We designed the Estate to complement the landscape, and we’re inviting guests to find their place in the picture with us.”

The new lighting solutions have helped the winery create a unique and memorable wine-tasting experience that showcases its rich heritage. The goal was to create an inviting and immersive environment that would allow visitors to fully appreciate the winery’s history, culture, and wine-making process, and the delivered result certainly does that!
