Ironically, the first track broadcast on PBS 106.7FM back in 1979, was I’ll Be Gone (Someday I’ll Have Money) by Spectrum. More than 40 years later, the radio station continues to champion Melbourne’s diverse music community, hosting 86 programs per week, and although it cannot profess to have bundles of money, thankfully the station is by no means “gone”! PBS is however moving premises, from Easey St, to its new home in the Collingwood Yards Art Precinct. So when the Station Manager, Adrian Basso, advised that the community organisation wished to engage Darkon for the supply of the fixtures for the new space, we were once again very happy to offer our good friends assistance with design and supply of the lighting collateral required to complete the project. Demolition was already underway when we began working with Zvi Belling of ITN architects, so the team worked fast to produce the new lighting layout for approval by builders, Plan A Commercial Interiors and the client. The station’s new home includes four Broadcast Studios, office & admin areas, a breakout kitchen and green-room for artists, as well as a live performance recording studio and a music library! In 2019, PBS 106.7FM was inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame, and we encourage you to get behind PBS and support the expensive relocation exercise by making a tax-deductible donation to its ‘Make It Home’ appeal online, or by calling 8415 1067.
